Why We Use The FMS



Why do I use the Functional Movement Screen(FMS) with my students and clients?  Here are statements taken right from the FMS Site.  “The FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function”. “By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries”. “These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness”.

We “monitor the FMS score to track progress and to identify those exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength in each individual”.

The FMS isn’t telling us how good of shape we are in.  It’s giving us information and feedback on how we prioritize and select the right exercise in order to insure we move better.

We screen and re-screen so that we stay on track.  Once one pattern is improved or corrected, we move on to the next.  The goal is to move well across the board.
