Long Slow Cardio, doesn't work for Fat Loss! You did know that right? For years we have used other forms of exercise (Strength training, Interval Training, Metabolic Training, etc.) to maximize fat loss. However, I see it all the time. Trainers programing hours of long slow cardio for their clients. If your teacher or trainer has you doing hour upon hour long slow bought of cardio and tells you it is to maximize your fat loss, fire them. Recent studies that came out this Summer support the fact that long boughts of slow cardio doesn't work for fat loss. On study, which lasted for a year (Yes, A Whole Year) stated that the test group performed 60 minutes for treadmill running 6 days a week at 60-70% Target Heart Rate (THR) and over the course of the year, they lost a Whooping 3.5 pounds. I don't know about you, but I think my clients would be pretty mad if I put them on a treadmill or had them go run for an hour and they only lost 3.5 pounds over the whole year.
Take away... Ditch the treadmill and crank up the intensity.
